Senators on both sides of the aisle repeatedly pressed Tillerson about how tough he would be willing to get toward Russia, given his company’s extensive business there and the fact that he’d be working for a president who, until Wednesday, refused to fully acknowledge intelligence officials’ findings that Russia hacked into the Democratic Party. Tillerson struggled to answer those questions with specifics because, he said, he hasn’t yet had classified briefings. At one point, Tillerson said he and Trump hadn’t had an in-depth conversation about Russia’s actions in Syria, which amazed Menendez.
