European stocks up, but Nikkei retreats from highs

The FTSE 100 index of leading British companies rose almost 0.1 percent to 6,296.97 while Germany’s DAX increased 0.2 percent to 7,597.03. France’s CAC 40 was up 0.3 percent at 3,652.91. Wall Street was poised to rise. Dow futures rose 0.1 percent to 13,946 while the broader S&P 500 futures gained 0.1 percent to 1,508.80.
