Strange Illusion: Enthralling however unconvincing melodrama, a B-film update of Hamlet, with teenager Lydon having questions in regards to slick talker William who’s wooing his widowed mom Eilers. The Happiest Days of Your Life: Pat Patricia to take issues into her own hands. Beautifully orchestrated and photographed by Jack Hildyard, with Laughton having a stellar performance in the lead role. The movie loses steam during the journey but it is still amusing. Cast includes Alastair Sim, Margaret Rutherford, Gentleman Middleton, Joyce Grenfell, Edward Rigby, Muriel Aked, John Bentley, Bernadette O’Farrell, and Richard Wattis. (84 minutes,’50)
