Why Tiger Woods Should Remain Silent…
Author: Maureen Waterhouse
In ‘Reality TV’ America, we have somehow come to love to watch the pain of others. There are those who will claim that when an individual like Tiger Woods becomes a public figure, they somehow give up their right to privacy and basic human dignity. Since when? When I heard about the accident, all I cared about was if Tiger was okay. When I learned he would be fine, that was all I needed to know. The media, however, has been relentless in their pursuit of the Woods family. They are sensationalizing the event and I’m frankly not so sure they’re not just making stuff up.
Nothing he did personally affects me or my family, so I say leave him alone. I can’t think of a single reason for him to feed the frenzy by saying more than he has. Some will say he’s perpetuating the situation by not talking to the press or police. I think that’s being said by the press and the police because they’re not getting what they want. There was no reason to release the 911 transcript other than to try to embarrass him and his family. No one was hurt by this but Tiger himself, and as such, it remains no one’s business. It’s high time someone stood up to those who feel they deserve a front row seat to other people’s pain. I say, ‘Good for you, Tiger – don’t ever tell anyone anything about this incident EVER’.
Believe me, it won’t be long before the vapid masses have their attention turned to some other poor sap who isn’t as willing as Tiger Woods to protect themselves or their family. We’re talking about people with the attention span of a can opener. Perhaps if a few more of us could maintain the same kind of quiet dignity as Tiger Woods, we would be living in a kinder and more gentle world. I say good for him.
Oh, and America – mind your own business.
