Monday, September 12th, 2011

Ted Olson spent his 71st birthday Sunday at his family’s lakeside property in Northern Wisconsin. He was invited to ceremonies marking the anniversary of 9/11 but, after careful consideration, decided not to attend. “I had to balance between my feeling that I should be at the Pentagon and participate in these public events of memory and remembrance,” he told us Friday. “On the other hand, I also felt it’s so powerfully overwhelming that the best thing I could do is to celebrate my birthday, remember Barbara’s death and celebrate the remainder of our lives with family members away from Washington, D.C.” Read full article > >

50,000 fans turn out for FreeFest

Monday, September 12th, 2011

When TV on the Radio stormed through “Wolf Like Me” at the Virgin Mobile FreeFest this weekend, the New York rock band seemed to summon all the tension, restlessness and unflinching hope of a tumultuous post-9/11 decade. An hour later, Deadmau5, the massively popular electro-house DJ famous for wearing an oversize, mouse-eared helmet, was dishing up escapist electronic dance music that felt as thick and sugary as funnel cake. Fans bounced and bobbled, some sporting mouse ears of their own. Read full article > >

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

Republican’s lead in N.Y. election for Weiner’s seat shows Democrats’ vulnerability

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

WADI DINAR, Libya — Fierce resistance by Moammar Gadhafi loyalists entrenched in two strongholds has stalled the rebels’ final push for complete control over Libya. Three weeks after the fall of Tripoli appeared to herald the end of Libya’s brutal civil war, the protracted battle over the loyalist bastions of Bani Walid and Sirte, Gadhafi’s hometown, has dashed hopes of a speedy “declaration of liberation” that would start the clock ticking on a transition to democracy.
