Dianne Feinstein Signs On To Public Option Push

Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) became the 11th Senator to sign on to a new effort by Democrats to press Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to pass a public option for insurance coverage using reconciliation, her office confirmed to the Huffington Post on Wednesday. The California Democrat joins a list of mostly progressive members to offer her late-stage support for the government run plan.

George Ryan Asks Obama For Clemency

Former Illinois governor George Ryan has renewed his clemency efforts and is hoping President Obama, whom he worked with in state legislature, will sign for his early release. The Chicago Tribune reports that Ryan’s wife Lura Lynn Ryan has a terminal lung disease and is desperate for the former governor to be released from prison early. Ryan is serving a six year prison sentence for corruption during his administration

Lamont: Lieberman "Dithering" On Health Care

One of Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) most strident critics accused him of “dithering” on health care reform after the Independent stated that he would consider sustaining a filibuster of the legislation. Ned Lamont, who beat Lieberman in the 2006 Democratic primary only to lose to the senator in the general election (after Lieberman defected from the party), accused his one-time opponent of posturing for attention in making his filibuster threat

American Medical Association Trying To Torpedo Health Care Reform Again

Just days before President Barack Obama is set to address the American Medical Association to pitch its members on his vision for health care reform, the 250,000-member physician group announced it would oppose a major component of that effort.
