ABC and the Motion Picture Academy will be busy Wednesday looking for a new person to exec produce the next Academy Awards broadcast after producer/bad boy Brett Ratner stepped down late Tuesday. His “resignation” comes shortly after he used a homophobic slur in a roomful of reporters during a screening last week for his new movie, “Tower Heist,” in re what he thought about rehearsing. Now that the 2011 Academy Awards are behind us – and we’ve read and watched a number of people compliment and criticize the job done by hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco – it’s time to look ahead and provide the folks who run that giant Oscar ship with some suggestions of our own as to who should host the ceremony next year. First we need to look at whether the whole two-host thing works. I personally don’t like it because it really comes down to chemistry, and when you have only a little time to rehearse it’s hard to form the sort of one-two punch you’d need to be successful with a hosting duo.
