Syracuse assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine: Molestation allegations are ‘patently false’

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine says allegations that he molested two former ball boys for years are “patently false.” The school placed Fine on administrative leave Thursday “in light of the new allegations” and an investigation by the Syracuse City Police. In a statement released by one of his attorneys Friday, Fine said the allegations have been thoroughly investigated multiple times and that he has fully cooperated with past inquiries. Viola Drath’s husband requests to represent himself in trial; says wife was killed as part of Iranian hit

The man charged in the fatal beating of his socialite wife in Georgetown fired his attorneys on Friday and decided to represent himself on the murder charges. At a hearing in D.C. Superior Court Judge Russell F. Canan allowed Albrecht Gero Muth, 47, to serve as his own lawyer. In lengthy ramblings, Muth also told the judge he believed the Aug. 11 death of his wife of 22 years, Viola Drath, 91, was actually a “hit” ordered by Iranian agents. Read full article > >

Reclusive late heiress bequeathes $25M Monet painting to Corcoran

Huguette M. Clark, the reclusive heiress who died last month in New York, has left a painting from Claude Monet’s “Water Lilies” series to the Corcoran Gallery of Art. The bequest was revealed in a will that her attorneys filed Wednesday in New York. Clark , 104, had an extensive art collection in her 42-room apartment on Fifth Avenue. The art, including works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir and John Singer Sargent, is being transferred to the Bellosguardo Foundation, which is named after her 24-acre estate in Santa Barbara, Calif.
