Don’t light your hair on fire, Mitt

Monday, March 5th, 2012

Why won’t Mitt Romney let me like him? Every time I start to make peace with the idea of a Romney nomination, he goes and says something like this: “You know, it’s very easy to excite the base with incendiary comments. We’ve seen throughout the campaign if you’re willing to say really outrageous things… you’re going to jump up in the polls. I’m not willing to light my hair on fire to try and get support.” Read full article > >

Saturday, January 14th, 2012

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — More than a decade ago, before Gillette Stadium rose like a palace alongside Route 1 here, New England Patriots practice would close and the veterans would head back up the street to the cramped locker room in the base of old, embarrassing Foxboro Stadium, never home to the Super Bowl champs. A few young players lagged behind, working with position coaches, skeleton drills that amounted to the only competition of the week for those who had no chance of playing. Read full article > >

In Afghan fight, U.S. takes to the airwaves

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

FORWARD OPERATING BASE SHARANA, Afghanistan — In this rugged province where news travels almost exclusively by radio, the man who calls himself DJ Abed Lawang is one of the biggest names on the airwaves, known for playing hit Pashto ballads, telling jokes and hosting a popular call-in show about farming practices.
