While criticizing the Democrats’ health care reform bill, GOP Rep. John Shadegg admitted that he would support a single payer health system, much like the one Medicare is based on. His fellow Republicans, who have been railing against any kind of reform that resembles single payer or universal health care, are likely to be displeased with Shadegg’s comments

MEXICO CITY — Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim is the world’s richest person, jumping past Americans Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to become the first person from a developing nation to top the list, according to Forbes magazine. The rise of Slim, the son of an immigrant shopkeeper who amassed a $53.5 billion fortune and bought a major stake in the New York Times, is part of an increased presence on the list of billionaires from emerging countries, said Forbes’ reporter Keren Blankfeld. Another online retailer dropped affiliates in Colorado on Tuesday, following Amazon.com’s lead, but it’s looking unlikely the Legislature will repeal the state law that’s prompting the companies to abandon the state. Mom-and-pop online entrepreneurs discovered on Monday that retail giant Amazon.com was dropping them over a state law regarding Internet sales.
