Tom Colicchio SNAPed to reality by a kindergartner

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Last night at the Omni `Shoreham, Tom Colicchio may have faced the toughest critic of his well-decorated career: a shy, cherubic boy from Toledo, Ohio, named Austin Jackson , who is likely the first person ever to spit out the celebrity chef’s food in front of a packed auditorium. Colicchio was not alone in getting flayed by a 6-year-old kindergartner. All four celebrated chefs who took part in the Great American Family Dinner Challenge — a stunt in which two teams attempted to prepare a multi-course dinner based on a SNAP or food stamp budget of $10 per family — felt the sting of Austin’s criticism. The boy didn’t even require words to express his displeasure. Read full article > >

The arrival ceremony, the good china, the wonk mixed with the pomp (the womp!), the Sensible Shoe People mixed with the Famous Celebrity People mixed with the people who are at these things because they are always at these things, who know better than to try to wear a hanbok, elegant as the garment might look. Tonight on “Dancing With the Stars” is Depressing Stories Night, in which the celebrity dancers can tell a story from the most memorable years in their lives. Bobby Flay to open second burger joint in College Park

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

The grill has barely been seasoned at the K Street NW location and Bobby Flay is already itching to unleash a second Bobby’s Burger Palace in the Washington area. A College Park outlet is expected to open sometime next month, a spokeswoman for the celebrity chef confirmed. The second location of Bobby’s Burger Palace will severely test the willpower, not to mention the weekly budget, of the average University of Maryland student. The burger joint will be located on the retail level of the Varsity at College Park , the six-story complex that redefines student housing. The Varsity, it seems, will not only offer U-Md. students flat-screen TVs, granite countertops, tanning beds and a fitness center, but also a chance to bite into gourmet ground beef. Bobby Flay’s recipe for eating healthfully

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

The name Bobby Flay isn’t exactly synonymous with healthful eating. The Food Network star/restaurateur/celebrity chef is better known for his big juicy burgers than for figure-friendly meals. And you won’t find calorie counts on the menu at his growing chain, Bobby’s Burger Palace . But Flay himself has slimmed down over the past year or so, losing, by his estimate, 10 or 15 pounds. He didn’t do it by joining Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers , a la other celebrities. He whittled his waist by making a surprisingly few, surprisingly simple lifestyle changes. At 5 foot 11 inches, Flay weighs 172 pounds. Read full article > >

Galileo III has closed, Donna’s future uncertain

Friday, September 16th, 2011

The restaurant that was supposed to resurrect Roberto Donna ’s sagging fortunes has now contributed to his decline. The celebrity chef confirmed this afternoon that Galileo III at 600 14th St. NW has officially ceased operations. “Yes it is true the owner [ Corrado] Bonino has closed. Unfortunately the current economy and avalanche of negative articles [in the Post] did not assist in the matter,” the James Beard Award-winning chef wrote via e-mail. “At this time, I ask for some courtesy by discontinuing the pursuit to get Roberto and allow me my privacy in moving forward in my life.” Read full article > >
