Just because you’ll never, ever get to watch the Oscars from the comfort of the plush seat next to Viola Davis doesn’t mean you still can’t watch Sunday night’s ceremony in style. At the swanky Hamilton, for example, you can walk the red carpet and pose for “paparazzi” before heading in to watch the ceremony. Or perhaps you’d prefer to raise a prohibition-era Bee’s Knees to “The Artist” in the more intimate Quill bar at the Jefferson. Read full article > >

For the first time in seven years, the Grammy Awards will have a host — singer LL Cool J has officially signed on to host the ceremony on CBS, the network announced Wednesday. Nobody tunes into awards shows to watch things go well. At least, we don’t. Because nobody fell or vomited onstage we’re going to consider VMAs 2011 a success, though the ceremony raised more questions than it answered, such as: Will Beyonce have a wind machine in the delivery room? Is her pregnancy the reason why the set was designed to look like an enormous birth canal? Does Cloris Leachman really know what that three-letter acronym means? Yes, possibly and no, are our guesses. Successful or not, the 2011 ceremony still had its share of awkward moments. Let’s run them down. Read full article > >

He looked so uncomfortable sitting on that stage, lowering his head and blushing as others gushed over him. But Derrick Rose has gotten better with all of this attention — and he has had no choice, because his electrifying play has raised his profile and that of the Chicago Bulls , who finished with the best record in the NBA after struggling for relevance since Michael Jordan walked away. Rose received the league’s most valuable player award in a hotel ballroom in suburban Chicago last week, but the ceremony was a celebration of not just a young man but also a plan, hatched several years before, by a single mother and her three oldest sons to form a protective wall around the baby of the bunch, the one they call “Pooh.” Read full article > >

JERUSALEM–Fatah and Hamas formalized their agreement to halt a four-year rift at a ceremony in Cairo on Wednesday, raising hopes of an end to a split that left Palestinians under rival governments in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. “We announce to our Palestinian people that we turn forever the black page of division,” said Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, who leads Fatah and said he soon will visit Hamas-ruled Gaza. The start of the ceremony at the headquarters of Egypt’s intelligence agency, which followed a signing of the accord by delegation leaders from both sides, was held up for hours in a protocol dispute.
