Designers have always been inspired by India’s rich history of fashion with bright Bollywood colors, exotic saris, elegant embroidery and stunning jewelry. Chanel, for example, launched its 2012 Paris-Bombay Collection in December of 2011 and Hermès put out a limited-edition line of saris , drawing the world’s attention to the glamor and glitz of India.

A new line of clothing from the fashion house Missoni brought down Target’s Web site Tuesday as eager shoppers flocked to get the high-fashion duds on the cheap. The retailer’s site has been yo-yoing since the collection went on sale early Tuesday morning. “Due to an overwhelming amount of traffic to Target.com as a result of the Missoni launch this morning, guests are unable to access the site,” Target said in a statement to the New York Times. “Providing a positive shopping experience to our guests is important to us and we are working to get the site back up as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.” Read full article > >

Keep dry while biking with two new editions from a favorite cycling fashion label Urban biking clothiers Outlier always seem to be upping their game with details that we had the chance to see first-hand when they stopped by last week to preview their new lineup for Spring 2011. This season sees a few classic styles revamped with technical refinements, as well as an instantly covetable jacket and shoes joining the collection. The Pivotal Bomber Jacket , “a synthesis of everything Outlier,” combines a lightweight “4Season” wool with the brand’s signature pivot sleeve construction. Trimmed in superfine merino, the mid-weight outer is water-resistant, breathable, and has a handy angled arm pocket. Similarly a balance of technical details and style, their first foray into footwear is a minimalist waterproof sneaker in men’s and women’s sizes. The Outlier Feit Supermarines , handmade by Australian specialty shoemakers Feit , feature a double layer of French calf leather on the interior and exteriors comprised of Egyptian cotton made from only the longest fibers—hence their extreme water resistance. A removable cork midsole helps absorb shock while riding, and a double layer of Vibram sheet rubber provides solid traction for when you hit pavement. Other bonuses include waxed cotton laces, a reflective patch on the back and a hidden pocket on the tongue (for tucking laces). While all these cleverly-engineered details don’t come cheap, investing in the jacket ($290) and shoes ($260) will see you through many a ride. Take our reader survey and enter to win a CH Edition Jambox!

Everyday leather bags with minimalist-luxe appeal Brothers Tim and Dan Joo created their bag label Haerfest with the intention of designing “modern basics that age well.” With four simple styles crafted in durable materials like leather and brass, the unisex line boasts equally straightforward style names such as A1 Back Pack (shown above). While the A1 retains the classic backpack shape in sultry leather, the A2 Bucket Bag riffs on the roll-top trend with its open top and multifunctional straps. Together, they sling over shoulders as one strap, or for a more streamlined approach, separate them to keep it casual. The A3 Shoulder Sack, definitely the most feminine of the collection, flattens completely making it a useful bag to pack on your next trip. For extended journeys, the A4 Overnight Duffel mods a classic but keeps it functional. The tubular shape makes it easy to stow, leather flaps secure hidden pockets and its simple leather exterior adds an alluring Bond element—sure to get you bumped up to first. Most styles come in a variety of muted colors, which can be seen in full from the Haerfest website. Since the collection just launched, stockists are still undetermined but to get your hands on a bag, contact Haerfest . Prices span $380-550, depending on the model and materials.

A Tokyo artist combines man-made design with aquatic creatures for a series of vibrant displays of science by Meghan Killeen Japanese artist Iori Tomita takes a colorful approach to highlighting the complex compositions of marine life creatures with his collection entitled “ New World Transparent Specimens .” Tomita was first introduced to the creation of transparent specimens for the scientific purpose of examining minuscule bone structure as an undergraduate student majoring in fisheries. The specimens’ flesh is made translucent by a method that dissolves the creatures’ natural proteins. The artistry of nature and man-made design converge when vibrant dyes are introduced to the delicate skeletal system. Selectively injecting red dye into the hard bones and blue into the softer bones, Tomita underscores the other worldliness of aquatic life. Calling upon his experience as a fisherman, Tomita continues to maintain a rapport with the fishing community by bartering his assistance in exchange for new marine creatures. Depending on its size, the process averages between four and six months to create each specimen, which are like a psychedelic version of Danish artist Stefan Dam ‘s gorgeously creepy organisms. Recently exhibited at Design Festa in Tokyo and celebrated at the Tokyo Institute of Technology’s Makezine event, Tomita’s work will soon be on display again at the ” Tokyo Mineral Show ” from 10-13 December 2011 at Sunshine City. “New World Transparent Specimens” are available for purchase through the the Japanese-based store Tokyu Hands for

Woodworking scraps-turned-fashion in Navajo-inspired necklaces The side project of CH contributor Mike Giles and his girlfriend Judy Lawrence, Miju jewelry is a peek into how the two mix Mike’s furniture design with a creative Montreal-based partnership. For Fall/Winter the duo created “Manha”—an 11-piece assortment of laser-cut wood gems. Of the Native American-inspired collection, one of our favorites is the “T-Bird necklace” (also available as a brooch). Taking the classic Thunderbird silhouette, the duo then added detailed etching for geometric texture and an overall appealing design. Painted either gold or a combination of red and blue, the necklace hangs at a perfectly situated place across the collarbone, allowing for full visibility that works with a variety of necklines. Each piece in the collection is made from solid walnut—remnants from other designs Giles creates in his Montreal-based woodworking shop, Furni . The Manha collection sells online from the Miju Etsy site, with prices starting at $36.

Everything’s coming up paisley in Keds’ new limited-edition sneakers Maybe it’s just another post-hippie moment but among all the fringe and tie dye in current fashion, something about the psychedelic patterns of paisley just feels right. For Ked’s ’70s installment of their Century Collection , the classic sneaker brand gets groovy with two new styles. Both limited editions, the men’s thin-wale corduroy ankle boot dubbed The Fab features a smooth satin paisley lining, while the women’s Champion Cool Cat sneaker shows off the print with a silky woven cotton exterior. Each style sells online exclusively from Keds. The Fab is available in Navy or Oxblood corduroy for $65 and the Champion Cool Cat comes in Smoky White or Fuschia paisley patterns for $45.
