Architect David Jameson has built a reputation for cutting-edge design

Friday, September 30th, 2011

In just 12 months, Alexandria-based architect David Jameson has won 27 state, national and international design awards — a number that most in his profession would be delighted to rack up in an entire career. At 43, though, Jameson might just be warming up. This year, he entered Residential Architect magazine’s blind competition, the names of entrants withheld from its jury. Miss Universe backlash: Miss France speaks out against Miss Angola

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Miss France, Laury Thilleman, is offering some nasty, sore loser, sour grapes, culturally imperious comments about Miss Angola, Leila Lopes, who just won the 2011 Miss Universe pageant . The French magazine Premiere.fr reports that Miss France, a top 10 finalist in the competition, made the comments during a telephone interview with the magazine. She said the win surprised her (actually she said all the contestants were surprised) and noted that Miss Angola hardly ever wore makeup and she often wore jeans. And she was reserved and lacking in personality. Oh, and the fact that the contest was held in Brazil played a role — the implication being that Angola is a former Portuguese colony like Brazil. (If that’s the case then why didn’t they just elect Miss Brazil!? ) Read full article > >

‘The King’s Speech’ Leads 2011 BAFTA Winners

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

While we have the Academy Awards here in the states, across the pond their big night is the BAFTAs (or The British Academy of Film and Television). This year’s ceremony took place yesterday, and not surprisingly The King’s Speech annihilated the competition, taking home awards for Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Leading Actor (Colin Firth), Supporting Actor (Geoffrey Rush), Supporting Actress (Helena Bonham Carter), Original Screenplay and Original Music. Phew! Talk about a good night for a film the Brits are obviously very proud of (as well they should be).
