Singularities

3Sixteen details three of their uniquely talented clients in video In celebration of the unique individuals that wear 3Sixteen, the denim-focused label recently created a series of videos showing off their customers’ talents and hardworking lifestyles. The trio of intriguing mini-docs, all profiling people in their homebase of NYC and cleverly titled ” Singularities ,” follows the dedicated coffee roasters at The Coffee Foundry, the skilled tattoo artists at Invisible Ink and the laid-back drummer Jahphet Landis. Directed by Kellen Dengler , the vignettes capture each of their subjects without ever mentioning 3Sixteen. This subtle brand-building project, much like their clothing, keeps it about the product not the name. We had the pleasure of getting to know just how the clothing company works when we collaborated with Andrew Chen and the 3Sixteen team late last year on a series of ties made from locally-sourced wool in Manhattan’s Garment District. Like everything the brand produces, the attention to detail and commitment to craft really shines in each of the four styles, with a simple label hand-sewn on the back. Dengler and the team are still searching for the fourth subject for the Singularities series. If you think your talents deserve some airtime, submit your work using one of their various online platforms for the project before 1 April 2011. To get your hands on one of our remaining collaborative ties, check them out in our online shop , where they sell for $80 each.

Homegrown Norwegian furniture-makers keep it local The three young partners behind Oslo-based furniture studio Mokasser —Karl Marius Sveen, Roger Sveian and Paul Van Wonderen—keep their business entirely local by designing and producing their collection all in Norway. With a nationwide decrease in furniture manufacturing, Marius tells Cool Hunting, “Lots of manufacturers are moving a big part of their production out of Norway to survive and to compete with prizes. Mokasser is still able to manufacture all parts in Norway, mostly because of being a high-end company, with good finishes and a focus on quality in every product. We also have a close and constant contact with the customers, trying to meet their needs regarding choice of upholstery.” Thanks to their education and experience, the group has a strong background in the Norwegian furniture industry. The clean shapes and the playful colors of each product however, are the work of Nora Furuholmen , Christian S

NYC’s latest food truck serves up a dose of zany pop art Luz Azul, the NYC-based artist who goes by Marco , recently moved his gallery from the Lower East Side to the open road. Deciding to jump on the mobile vending movement to reach out to his customers rather than wait for them to come to him, the enterprising artist purchased a former food truck through Craigslist and for the past few months has been rolling around greater New York City hawking his works. New Yorkers will already be familiar with Marco’s ubiquitous murals and pop art portraits of original fictional characters in slapstick situations. His illustrations mostly feature a protagonist octopus named Ollie, but one that stands out includes a cartoon cop confronting a peanut with the phrase “Bust A Nut.” Marco’s works span $20-$500, depending on size, and come in hand-painted wooden frames. In addition to his mobile gallery, Marco works with various charities and often throws children’s painting parties with proceeds also benefiting charitable organizations. We caught up with Marco at one of his stops where he explained he will soon launch a series of webisodes featuring celebrity interviews and paintings based on his interpretations of them, which he will also donate to charity. To take a peek into Marco’s whacky and feel-good perspective towards life, track his whereabouts via his Twitter, marcoartmobile , or check out his online gallery .
