George Huguely’s videotaped statement played for jury

Friday, February 10th, 2012

CHARLOTTESVILLE — Tears rolled down George Huguely’s face and his shoulders shook as he watched the videotape of his statement to police on the morning he was charged with murdering Yeardley Love. His wailing sounded in the courtroom from a TV screen as he repeated dozens of times “she’s not dead” and “there’s no way she’s dead” in the 25 minutes after detectives finally told him Love was dead. Jurors leaned toward the screen to watch, with one wiping her eyes. Read full article > >

We are the media, and so are you

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

The bills are dead , thanks to widespread protest. But the real architects of the bills’ defeat don’t have a catchy label or a recognized lobbying group. They don’t have the glamour or the deep pockets of the studios. ABC’s ‘The River’: Creepshow catches a bad case of jungle rot

Monday, February 6th, 2012

There’s paranormal, and then there’s para- puhleeez . The line between those two can be quite fine, especially when results vary from viewer to viewer. “The River,” which premieres on ABC on Tuesday night, leaps back and forth from frightening to ridiculous so often that it might as well be performing double-Dutch jump rope. It’s a drama about a film crew that goes in search of missing nature/adventure TV show host Dr. Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood), who was last seen shooting episodes of his docu-series, “The Undiscovered Country,” in remote tributaries of the Amazon River. He was presumed dead — until his GPS locator started beeping out a distress signal. Read full article > >
