A Northern Virginia man is filing a discrimination lawsuit against one of the nation’s most secretive intelligence agencies, claiming it revoked his security clearance because his wife attended an Islamic school and works for a Muslim nonprofit group. A federal judge Wednesday granted small wins to AT&T and T-Mobile in the first hearing of the Justice Department’s lawsuit to block the companies’ $39 billion mega-wireless merger. Judge Ellen Huvelle , of the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia, set a Feb. 13 trial date — earlier than Justice requested — and declined for now rival Sprint Nextel’s request to join the suit, which would have complicated the proceedings. An assistant principal at a Fauquier County elementary school was arrested Wednesday and charged with possessing and distributing child pornography, federal prosecutors said. Joshua Myers, 29, who works at Greenville Elementary School in Nokesville, chatted online with an undercover officer and gave the officer a password to folders on his computer that contained child pornography, according to papers filed in U.S. District Court in Alexandria. The officer used the password to download seven videos, including some that show children engaged in sexual contact with adults and other children, court papers say. Read full article > >

Former Prince George’s county executive Jack B. Johnson admitted in federal court Tuesday that he took more than $400,000 in bribes, agreeing to a plea deal that showed he began shaking down developers almost from his first days in office. Johnson’s plea in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt came on a day when federal prosecutors announced that the county’s former housing director and two developers had pleaded guilty in secret proceedings as part of a sweeping corruption investigation that remains active. Those cases show that the probe was in high gear as early as 2006, the same year Johnson sailed to a second term. Read full article > >

Jack B. Johnson, the former Prince George’s County executive who is the central figure in a sweeping public corruption case , is scheduled to appear in federal court Tuesday for a plea agreement hearing. The hearing is scheduled for noon at U.S. District Court in Greenbelt, according to the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office. Such proceedings typically mean prosecutors and the defendant have reached a deal to plead guilty. But even when a defendant has signed a plea deal, it is not official until he pleads guilty before a judge. Read full article > >
