New mortgage rule on disputed debts might hamper homebuyers seeking FHA loans

A little-noticed mortgage rule change that took effect April 1 could create hassles for significant numbers of homebuyers who plan to use low-down-payment FHA financing this spring. The change affects anyone with one or more “collection” accounts buried away in national credit bureau files. Pinterest addresses copyright concerns

Pinterest, the newly hot social networking site, has answered some questions about copyright permissions and how the company thinks about sharing. In a statement, the company said that it believes that it is protected under the safe harbor of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and that it is committed to quickly responding to alleged copyright issues. New anti-smoking ad campaign features personal profiles of tobacco victims

The federal government is launching a new anti-tobacco campaign that features personal descriptions and photographs of people who’ve suffered grievous effects from smoking, often before the age of 50. The ostensible purpose of the campaign, called “Tips from Former Smokers,” is to give smokers practical advice on how to quit their habit. Promotional materials released a day in advance of the formal launch, however, suggests it is also an up-close, voyeuristic look at victims of disease. Read full article > >

Yahoo files patent suit against Facebook

Yahoo has reportedly filed a patent suit against Facebook, saying that the social network is infringing on technologies that are the “foundation of our business.” It had been previously reported that Yahoo had demanded that Facebook pay licensing fees for at least 10 patents, and had threatened the IPO-bound social network with legal action if they could not come to a settlement. According to the court filing, the patents deal with technologies for advertising, privacy, social networking, messaging and allowing users to customize their Web experience. Read full article > >

Proview files suit against Apple in U.S. court

Proview, the Chinese electronics maker that is suing Apple over the trademark to the iPad, has apparently taken its legal battle to U.S. court. The FBI amassed a lengthy and often unflattering file on Apple’s co-founder, with more than 30 interviews of friends, neighbors, family, former business associates and Jobs, that revealed his early drug use and concerns that the then-head of NeXT was neglecting his daughter born out of wedlock with his high school girlfriend.
