‘Smash’ review: All that jazz is sometimes worth it

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Yea, though NBC walks through the valley of the shadow of death, all hope is not lost. “Smash,” the network’s easily engaging new Monday night drama about the making of a Broadway musical, turns out to be quite the little sunbeam. It has some endearing characters, an instinct for backstage meows and a firm grip on its own sense of camp control, which, if nothing else, sets it apart from Ryan Murphy’s now fully atrocious “Glee.” Read full article > >

NFL playoffs 2012: New England Patriots say their defense is peaking at the right time

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots have Tom Brady , a three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback. They have Wes Welker, an uncanny wide receiver who led the NFL in catches. They have a pair of tight ends — Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez — who are all but changing the way their position is played, particularly in tandem. And they have a resume — the top seed in the AFC, eight straight wins to close out the regular season, a 45-10 annihilation of Denver to open the playoffs — that would suggest they should be the favorites to win the Super Bowl. For the first time in the company’s history, Apple has publicly disclosed its list of suppliers. The firm lists 156 companies, many of which are not in the United States. Apple has been criticized in the past for the working conditions in its supplier factories — conditions highlighted by worker suicides at one Foxconn factory and an explosion at another, as well as a recent explosion at another supplier factory, Pegatron. ‘Spice’ makers alter recipes to sidestep state laws banning synthetic marijuana

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

“Spice” is back. Just months after Virginia and dozens of other states banned synthetic marijuana, the chemists who make it have found a way to outfox lawmakers. Spice manufacturers, who spray herbs with compounds that mimic the active ingredient in marijuana, have altered their recipes just enough to skirt the bans and are again openly marketing spice in stores and on the Web. Some users report that the new generation of products could be more potent than the original formulas, which have sickened hundreds nationwide and been linked to deaths. Read full article > >
