Years before country crooner Jason Aldean sang about chilling on a dirt road, ice-cold beer sitting in the console — known as country-rap “Dirt Road Anthem” — Brantley Gilbert co-wrote the song with Colt Ford and released his own version. While the catchy tribute to Southern life still languishes on Gilbert’s 2010 album as track No. 12, Aldean took the song to the top of the country charts this year. Though a battle between the two singers rages among devoted listeners, none of it mattered when Gilbert took the stage at the packed 9:30 Club on Thursday night.
