With less than two weeks left until the holidays, this is a prime week for making your list and checking it twice. But you don’t have an army of elves doing your bidding for you, so it’s easy for some Christmas purchases to slip through the cracks — and time is running out. Some developers have created apps that will help you keep your list organized, whether it’s for the naughty or the nice. Read full article > >

I said it several weeks ago on Twitter and I still believe it to be true: Here is a FREE ARTICLE for what to do with Thanksgiving leftovers. Ready? “Eat them; they are delicious. The end.” Love, Kat. It's true that there are dishes best served a la minute for optimum enjoyment; people aren't generally prone to stashing omelettes and pancakes into Tupperware containers for midnight noshes. Thanksgiving foods, though, tend to benefit from a night hunkered in the fridge, melding flavors and becoming exponentially more delicious. View This Poll To my mind, unless you're transmogrifying your excess sides into a wholly other form (like a Stuffpuppy ), you don't need much direction other than “heat and serve,” but judging from the amount of morning show coverage, newspaper articles and pitches in my inbox, folks are stumped by the surfeit of sweet potato casserole and mashed potatoes currently occupying their icebox. I don't have that problem. As for the “heat” part – I could eat stuffing that's been stored out on an ice floe, but my husband just can't deal with cold food. We're weird and don't own a microwave, but found that stock (chicken, turkey or vegetable), as always, is the solution to the problem. Just put leftovers in a pot, douse, cover and simmer just a bit for sufficiently warm, but not dried out casseroles, mashes, greens, stuffing, turkey and more. View This Poll But most importantly, the upshot of all of this is that I learned a new word today. “Crapulous” is defined by Merriam Webster as “marked by intemperance especially in eating or drinking” and by Dictionary.com as “1. given to or characterized by gross excess in drinking or eating. 2. suffering from or due to such excess.” A delightful new word like that is something I'm going to be chewing on for a long time to come. Tomorrow is the third Thursday in November, which means the return of one of wine’s most famous marketing gimmicks: Beaujolais nouveau. We used to see signs in restaurants and wine stores proclaiming “Le Beaujolais nouveau est arrive!” almost as a harbinger of cold weather and the holidays. Nouveau’s luster has faded, thanks to rising prices and the cynicism of wine purists who feel Beaujolais should be above all that. But I still like it. Read full article > >

If you haven’t already noticed, there is a corporate/conservative campaign underway to convince the public that public employees are living high on the taxpayer’s dime and should have their pay and pensions cut back. Even during the holidays this attack does not let up. Background: The Reagan Revolution ended most “defined-benefit” (they pay you) pensions for working people in the private sector, replacing them with “defined-contribution” (you pay Wall Street) pensions. read more

Fashion fantasies-come-true at Los Angeles Tron pop up Disney continues to fan Tron fever with the release of several items of higher-end, wearable merchandise for men and women by designers like Rousseau , Hayden-Harnett and Rotenier that will be available all in one place beginning 19 November 2010 at the Tron Pop-Up Shop inside Los Angeles’ Royal/T . The concept allows Tron fans to become as authentically part of it as Tron main character Kevin Flynn did when he entered his employer’s mainframe in the original film. We’ve put together our favorite pieces from the women’s couture collection here. Among the dozens of retro-futuristic items available are jewelry pieces, like Rotenier’s sterling silver Lightcycle Cufflinks ($345). Tom Tom’s Derez Earrings have blue topaz stone ($155) and match a Grid Escape Ring ($195) and Light Runner Cuff ($265)—both gunmetal plated with mirrored lucite. It also has a Legacy necklace made with antique bronze chain ($395), exclusive to the pop-up store. Jerome Rousseau’s shiny Quorra Platform Sandal ($795) will perhaps be one of the most coveted items of them all, standing tall at five inches and unavailable outside of the pop up until February of next year. Those looking for more practical accessories can choose between the various bags and clutches by Hayden-Harnett ($129-$478), with matching cuffs ($98-$110). The shop closes on 23 December 2010, convenient for those in search of a last-minute gift for the holidays.
