D.C. public relations trailblazer Ofield Dukes died Wednesday in his hometown of Detroit at the Henry Ford Hospital after enduring a long battle with multiple myeloma, a a rare form of bone cancer. He was 79. “We are extremely saddened by the loss of our dear friend,” said Gregory Lee Jr., president of the National Association of Black Journalists. “Ofield Dukes revolutionized the public relations industry by increasing the visibility of African-Americans working in the field. Suspect in East Coast rapes, other attacks on 17 women to be extradited from Conn. to Va.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A Connecticut judge has agreed to extradite a man suspected in rapes along the East Coast from Connecticut to Virginia. New Haven Superior Court Judge Roland Fasano said Monday he would proceed with the extradition of Aaron Thomas. Thomas was arrested in March in his hometown of New Haven. Authorities say DNA confirmed that he is responsible for rapes and other attacks on 17 women from Virginia to Connecticut over the span of a decade. Read full article > >

PHOENIX — Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was back in her hometown Friday, visiting Tucson for Father’s Day weekend in her first time back to her hometown since she was shot in January. “We’ve been dreaming of this trip for some time,” Giffords’ astronaut husband, Mark Kelly, said in a news release. “Gabby misses Tucson very much and her doctors have said that returning to her hometown could play an important role in her recovery.” Kelly said the trip “is sure to be very emotional” and hopes the news media respects their privacy.
