As an author, writer and producer there is little Laila Al-Arian has done that she has not done well. Her work has appeared in The Nation, Alternet, The Independent, The Guardian, The Australian, United Press International, and the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs. She also co-wrote Collateral Damage: America’s War Against Iraqi Civilians (Nation Books) with Pulitzer prize-winning journalist, Chris Hedges. The book is based on their 2007 Nation magazine investigative piece “The Other War,” which was selected as one of Project Censored’s 25 most important under-covered news stories of 2008. Currently, Laila is a producer at Al-Jazeera English (AJE) and here is what she had to say about her experience so far.

The Congressional Budget Office is projecting that the nation’s unemployment rate will remain near 9 percent through 2012, representing a downgrade in the independent analyst’s economic prediction since a forecast released in August . CBO Director Douglas Elmendorf told members of a new congressional committee on deficit reduction created in the August debt deal that new economic data gathered in just the last few weeks has resulted in the dimmer projection. 11:02 a.m. | Updated – Keith Olbermann, the former MSNBC anchor, will host a prime time program for Current TV, the low-rated cable channel co-founded by Al Gore. The one-hour program will begin sometime in the spring. Mr. Olbermann will also become the chief news officer for Current, the company said in a news release Tuesday. “We are delighted to provide Keith with the independent platform and freedom that Current can, and does uniquely offer,” Mr. Gore said in a statement. read more
