High fives all around since we all accurately predicted that Rango would win the weekend box office, and it did! With $38 million, the Johnny Depp animated western about a chameleon who bumbles his way into becoming the leader of a small town in trouble easily won the weekend, and it didn’t even need 3D to do it. Following not-so-closely behind Rango was The Adjustment Bureau with $20.9 million, Beastly with $10 million, Hall Pass with $9 million and Gnomeo & Juliet with $6 million. The weekend’s other new release, Take Me Home Tonight, unfortunately finished in 11th place with only $3.5 million, perhaps proving that moviegoers are kinda sick of 80s throwback comedies.
