NEW YORK — Former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner of New York is ending a rough year with some good news. A spokeswoman says the Democrat and his wife, Huma Abedin, welcomed son Jordan Zain Weiner on Wednesday. Weiner resigned from Congress in June amid outrage over sexually explicit emails and social media postings involving a former porn actress and other women. COVE CITY, N.C. — A 9-year-old North Carolina girl pinned in a wrecked car for almost two days ate Pop-Tarts and Gatorade to help her survive the single-car crash that killed her father, police and relatives said on Monday. Jordan Landon of Cove City was airlifted to a hospital Sunday night after rescue teams cut her out of the 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that had been upside down in a culvert since Friday night, the North Carolina Highway Patrol said. Thursday night, the Washington Capitals watched their hold on a game against the Edmonton Oilers unravel with each infraction. Although the Capitals pushed back for a strong third period after being called for nine minor penalties through the opening 40 minutes, they couldn’t crack goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin and mount a comeback at Rexall Place. Edmonton captured a 2-1 victory behind power-play goals from Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle to hand Washington its first loss, snapping its franchise-best winning streak to start a season at seven games.
