SALT LAKE CITY — A 64-year-old man who broke his leg while hiking crawled through the Utah desert for four days near Canyonlands National Park before rangers rescued him. Amos Wayne Richards of Concord, N.C. is now recovering at home. He was hiking alone Sept. 8 in the rugged Maze District when he fell 10 feet. Read full article > >

SLAVE LAKE, Alberta — Wildfires blazing through a northern Canadian town have forced the evacuation of nearly 7,000 people. Police say nearly one-third of buildings were destroyed after strong winds suddenly turned the flames on Slave Lake, Alberta. The fires kept raging Monday. All residents were ordered to leave Sunday afternoon, but evacuation proved difficult as smoke and fast-moving flames blocked some of the highways. Read full article > >
