Liberals put the squeeze to Justice Roberts

Friday, May 25th, 2012

In one of his characteristic conniptions about people who frustrated him, Theodore Roosevelt, progressivism’s first president, said of Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, “I could carve out of a banana a judge with more backbone than that.” TR was as mistaken about Holmes’s spine as are various progressives today about Chief Justice John Roberts’s. Rick Perry starts the War on Christmas: Dispatches from the front lines

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Two wars on Christmas were almost simultaneously declared. The first was by Jon Stewart , who called Christmas the “aggressor nation.” The second was observed by Rick Perry , who released a new campaign ad in which he considers liberals the combatants. Naturally, Twitter reacted in the snarkiest way possible — tweeting a #XmasWarDiary from a battleground strewn with the parts of gingerbreadmen and candy-cane weapons. Read full article > >

Huntsman: Does he really have the makings of a third-party candidate?

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Jon M. Huntsman Jr. has become everybody’s shoulda-woulda-coulda candidate. As in, he should-be-doing better, would-be-doing better if the GOP were a different party, and could be the one to beat President Obama. Huntsman’s favorite-candidate status among Beltway pundits, and liberals, has led to questions about whether he would consider mounting a third party bid if he failed to win the GOP nod (which at this point, let’s face it, looks pretty likely). But every time he’s asked about a possible independent bid, Huntmsan says no. Read full article > >

Our floundering ‘federal family’

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

In societies governed by persuasion, politics is mostly talk, so liberals’ impoverishment of their vocabulary matters. Having damaged liberalism’s reputation, they call themselves progressives. Having made the federal government’s pretensions absurd, they have resurrected a supposed synonym for the government, the “federal family.” Having made federal spending suspect, they advocate “investments” — for “job creation,” a euphemism for stimulus, another word they have made toxic. Can Elizabeth Warren win?

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

The entrance of Harvard Law School professor Elizabeth Warren (D) into the race to face Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown (R) has already drawn huge amounts of media attention thanks to her high profile role in establishing the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for President Obama. There’s little question that Warren is a media sensation beloved by liberals and detested by conservatives — largely for her work to create the controversial agency that is tasked with overseeing the practices of the financial industry. Redistricting May Not Help GOP

Sunday, June 12th, 2011

Redistricting may be one of liberals’ biggest fears, but will it really be that bad for them? Maybe not, it turns out: Republicans made so many national and statehouse gains in 2010 that 2012 redistricting-a result of the 2010 Census-may not help them…

Obama Budget Pleases No One

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011
