WPGC’s six-hour birthday party at the 9:30 Club on Thursday night featured sets from more than a half-dozen acts both recent and vintage, but it was the crazy-prolific R&B hitmaker (and newly crowned Avon cosmetics spokesmodel) Keri Hilson who got to bat cleanup. Her hits-dense, rigidly paced 35-minute set culminated in “ Pretty Girl Rock ,” a hard-to-resist number that appropriates its chorus (“Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful”) from an old shampoo ad slogan. Hilson was a frequent presence on the charts as a songwriter and arranger before she launched her performing career in earnest. Unlike B.o.B., the Atlanta rapper who preceded her onstage, Hilson didn’t bring a band, just a DJ/hype man, two dancers and a drummer. The heavy presence of prerecorded elements in Hilson’s set, backing vocals included, made it difficult to parse what her live singing contributed, so jams such as “Gimme What I Want,” “The Way You Love Me” and “ Get Your Money Up ” sounded indistinguishable from their recorded versions, which all sound pretty great. This isn’t the first time fans have toyed around with a Legend of Zelda movie. It’s one of the only popular video games that hasn’t seen a live-action adaptation hit theaters, though that’s not stopping hardcore Zelda fans from creating their own live-action versions (via amusing trailers) of the game that follows our hero Link as he continually attempts to rescue Princess Zelda. The latest fan-made Legend of Zelda trailer is perhaps the most creative yet, as it imagines what the live-action adaptation would like if it were to come from the mind of John Hughes. The writer-director behind such ‘80s classics as The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Plains, Trains and Automobiles has a distinct voice that spoke to people… Read More Read Comments

Megatron’s New Movie Look Revealed? These days our first glimpses of superhero or Transformers characters usually comes from action figures. Since the toys are developed alongside the films, most of the time someone will leak images of these toys before we get to see what their live-action counterparts look like. For example, someone sent JoBlo an image of what appears to be the new Megatron toy. The toy and its vehicle actually do match up with a truck that’s been seen around set. Definitely one of the more stylish looks for Megatron, which is good since I can never tell which giant metallic robot is which.
