Huge Apple store opening at NYC’s Grand Central, likely to draw business to transit hub

NEW YORK — One of the world’s largest Apple stores is opening at the landmark Grand Central Terminal. The 23,000-square-foot personal electronics business will start selling to the public on Friday. The owner of the space, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which runs the city’s bus and subway system, says Apple Inc. is paying $180 per square foot for its lease — slightly less than the $200-per-square-foot top rate at the century-old Manhattan train hub. NBA and union meet for 12 hours, break without agreement to end lockout

NBA officials and player representatives met Wednesday afternoon in New York and talked until about 1 a.m. Thursday, but walked out of a Manhattan hotel after 12 hours of negotiations without an agreement and no indication that a deal was close at hand. The sides agreed to resume talks at noon Thursday. Born with little means into a first-century world, the historical Jesus might feel right at home with the very aspects of the occupation that so many 21st-century observers consider gross: the tents, the damp sleeping bags, the communal kitchen.
