The annual, decidedly silly ceremony — which airs live tonight at 9 ET on MTV — involves handing out popcorn bucket trophies in such illustrious categories as Best Scared-as-[Expletive] Performance and, more importantly, relentlessly promoting movies coming to a multiplex near you. The other day it was announced that Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire, Take Shelter) had been cast as General Zod in Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman movie, Man of Steel. Fans everywhere have had plenty to say about not only Shannon’s casting, but also whether it was a smart idea to use Zod as the villain after the character was featured previously in Superman II.
