Escalating its confrontation with the CIA, the militant organization Hezbollah released what it said were the names of agency officers working in Lebanon in a television broadcast that aired there last week. The exposure creates new security risks for CIA officers in a country where American espionage operations had already been damaged by Hezbollah’s capture of a group of agency-paid informants . First came a two-year pay freeze for federal workers. Now, the tote bags have to go, too. And the mugs, mouse pads, T-shirts and other items that bear the names of agencies and often are given away to employees and the general public. The reduction in swag is part of President Obama’s order Wednesday that agencies must make 20 percent spending cuts on government-paid travel, vehicles and technology — and the freebies handed out to help promote an agency’s mission. When Virginians go to the polls next month , candidates for state Senate and House of Delegates will have D’s and R’s by their names. But that county council candidate who got the nod from the local Democrats? The aspiring sheriff backed by the GOP? If voters can’t remember the candidates’ party affiliations, the ballot won’t clue them in. Read full article > >

When big accounting firms issue letters vouching for the financial statements of the companies they audit, the documents bear the signature of the accounting firm, as if a faceless entity picked up a pen and scribbled its endorsement. Now, a plan to make accountants more accountable would require audit firms to disclose the names of the partners who head each audit. Read full article > >

In just 12 months, Alexandria-based architect David Jameson has won 27 state, national and international design awards — a number that most in his profession would be delighted to rack up in an entire career. At 43, though, Jameson might just be warming up. This year, he entered Residential Architect magazine’s blind competition, the names of entrants withheld from its jury. More than 800 entries arrived from across the country. Jameson would walk away with not one but two unanimous grand awards, twice as many as anyone in the competition. Read full article > >

Reed Doughty tried to list them all. Of course, there was Adam Archuleta and Sean Taylor. Omar Stoutmire and Pierson Prioleau. Add Oshiomogho Atogwe and DeJon Gomes to the list now, too. In all, he could barely rattle off half their names. From Archuleta and Taylor to Atogwe and LaRon Landry, Doughty has played with 17 safeties since joining the Washington Redskins . With few exceptions, most didn’t hang around Washington for very long. “That sounds like 25 years worth of guys,” Doughty said. “It’s only been six.” Read full article > >

Good luck finding a mnemonic for remembering their names: Scientists have found 10 possible planets that don’t stay in a neat order like our solar system. That’s because they don’t have orbits-they just wander the Milky Way. The bodies, likely gaseous…
