Wait, they haven’t given out the Oscars for last year’s films and we’re already talking about 2012? It’s hard to believe another movie season is upon us — and even harder, at a time when Hollywood seems more addicted than ever to sequels, prequels and reboots, that we might go to the multiplex and enjoy something genuinely original. The Writers Guild of America announced its nominations for best original and adapted movie screenplays this afternoon, giving Oscar prognosticators a sense of the writing nominees that may wind up on Academy Award ballots later this month. Update: Actually, as Scott Feinberg of The Hollywood Reporter notes , many of the Oscar-eligible screenplays did not qualify for WGA consideration due to the Guild’s award guidelines. For example, films like “The Artist” and “Drive” are not eligible because they were not created by WGA members. So while some of the nominations below will likely dovetail with the Oscars, they may not be the best gauge of what will be recognized by the Academy. Read full article > >

When “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker wore dresses to the Oscars in 2000, some people may have thought they were on drugs. Turns out: They were. The two men hinted at being under the influence of something this March on the “Late Show with David Letterman.” The pair said they were “Sheening” their heads off when they donned the Jennifer Lopez- and Gwyneth Paltrow -inspired looks.
