Supreme Court to consider whether juveniles who kill must receive possibility of parole

Monday, November 7th, 2011

The Supreme Court said Monday that it will decide whether it is unconstitutional to sentence juveniles who kill to life in prison without the chance of parole, a next step after the court’s recent rulings that children may not be eligible for the same tough sentences as adults. The justices ruled in 2005 that juveniles may not be executed for their crimes. In 2010, they said that teenagers may not be locked up for life without the possibility of parole for crimes other than homicide. Read full article > >

Brittany Norwood likely to plead insanity in Lululemon slaying, court filing shows

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

Defense attorneys for Brittany Norwood, the woman charged with killing a co-worker in a Bethesda yoga shop, are likely to assert that their client is not criminally responsible because of mental illness, according to a filing in Montgomery County Circuit Court. Why Paul Ryan didn’t run

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

Ever since he won a House seat in 1998 at the tender age of 28, Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan has been seen as the party’s strongest potential Senate candidate in the Badger State. Ryan, himself, publicly entertained the possibility of running for Senate in 2012 if the seat came open. “I’ll definitely look at that and cross that bridge when I get to it,” Ryan said in 2008. And yet, when Sen. Herb Kohl (D) shocked the political world last Friday with his announcement that he wouldn’t seek a fifth term in 201 2 it immediately became clear that Ryan was likely to pass on the open seat race.
