I’m glad to see that there’s been a moderately aggressive media response to Mitt Romney’s latest falsehood: The claim that 92 percent of the people who have lost jobs on Obama’s watch are women. The argument, which his campaign is now making regularly, is central to Romney’s effort to win back women who were apparently alienated by the primary. Read full article > >

The conservative punditocracy is all aflutter today about the Union Leader’s endorsement of Newt Gingrich. Both the newspaper’s publisher, Joseph McQuaid, and those chattering about the endorsement offer the latest evidence to the conservative media being downright daft in this primary — a result, I suspect, of their increasingly self-segregation, which abets tone-deafness. GOP candidate Herman Cain wants to be your president. He wants to get you off the couch and back to work, put government on a short leash and, if possible, plug the hole in the sinking ship called the U.S. economy. One of his primary credentials for the job involves his nearly miraculous healing of the once-moribund Godfather’s Pizza , as if America were a midgrade Midwestern chain whose many problems could be solved with a few deaths in the family (read: store closings) and a tough-talking thug in a pin-stripe suit and fedora. Early support from Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker III and several other county leaders helped Derrick Leon Davis win the Democratic nomination for the vacant District 6 seat on the County Council. With all 26 of the district’s precincts reporting , Davis received 3,570 votes, or 55 percent of ballots cast. Arthur A. Turner Jr., with 1,254 votes, or 19 percent, was a distant second among the primary’s 14 candidates. Read full article > >

D.C. United Coach Ben Olsen hasn’t had to worry about his goalkeeping situation in months: Bill Hamid was the clear-cut starter, Steve Cronin the primary backup and rookie Joe Willis in the No. 3 slot. But Hamid’s red-card suspension and Cronin’s disappointing performance in relief last week forced Olsen to put more thought into his selection ahead of Saturday night’s match against the Vancouver Whitecaps at RFK Stadium. For competitive reasons, Olsen won’t reveal his choice until an hour before kickoff, but Cronin’s experience is likely to trump Willis’s rawness. Read full article > >
