In a crooked society, Andrei Kudoyarov may have been too straight for his own good. He was the principal of an elite public school, and when he was arrested in a sting and charged with taking a bribe, his defenders — and he had many of them — couldn’t believe it. They suspect that his real problem might have been that he offended someone above him by refusing to bend the rules. Read full article > >

In the wake of criticism for the way she handled the so-called “banana man” incident — in which a costumed student ran across a football field during a game — the principal of Colonial Forge High School in Stafford County has resigned. Karen Spillman’s departure was announced Tuesday, according to Fredericksburg.com . The Web site reports that Assistant Superintendent Lisa Martin will supervise the school until an interim principal is assigned. A search will be conducted to fill the vacancy permanently. The recently released 1964 interviews of Jacqueline Kennedy by Arthur Schlesinger Jr . make for fascinating reading . But if the one subject on which I have some detailed knowledge is any indication, historians will need to be careful about putting too much stock in what Mrs. Kennedy said. The subject is President John F. Kennedy’s writing partnership with Theodore Sorensen, his close aide and White House special counsel, once referred to by JFK as his “intellectual blood bank.” Mrs. Kennedy portrays her husband as the principal author of his Pulitzer Prize-winning book, “ Profiles in Courage ,” as well as his inaugural address. Sorensen is depicted as having untruthfully claimed credit for the book, and then having greedily and ungratefully accepted all the proceeds it generated. Read full article > >

The fund was a Ponzi scheme, and Risher had a long history of convictions for crimes such as securities fraud and money laundering, according to the SEC. Somehow, the promotional materials he used to solicit investors didn’t mention that he had spent 11 of the past 21 years in prison, the SEC said. Read full article > >

Sean Lanigan’s nightmare began in January 2010, when the principal at Centre Ridge Elementary School pulled him out of the physical education class he was teaching and quietly walked him into an interrogation with two Fairfax County police detectives. He had no warning that a 12-year-old girl at the Centreville school had accused him of groping and molesting her in the gym. The girl, angry at Lanigan about something else entirely, had made the whole thing up. But her accusations launched a soul-sapping rollercoaster ride that still hasn’t ended. Read full article > >

A sixth-grader switches schools because she becomes overwhelmed by chronic allergies after her principal turns the cafeteria into a spay-and-neuter clinic for hundreds of cats. Transferring is only part of her cure: Her mother files a $100,000 lawsuit against the D.C. government and wins a $7,500…
