‘Law & Order: SVU’ to return for 14th season, thanks to ratings

Dick Wolf’s back, and NBC’s still got him. NBC has renewed “Law & Order: SVU” for a 14th season because the show averaged nearly 8 million viewers. These days, that’s a good crowd for NBC because “L&O: SVU” is the network’s sixth-most-watched show — behind only Sunday football, “Harry’s Law,” “Smash” and two nights of “The Voice” — and because it averages more 18-to-49-year-olds (who are the currency of NBC’s ad sales) than “Community,” “30 Rock,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Awake,” “Grimm,” “Are You There, Chelsea?” and “Fashion Star.” Read full article > >

Guantanamo detainees protest on anniversary

To mark 10 years of military detention at Guantanamo Bay , human rights groups are organizing events worldwide this week, from rallies to flash mobs to concerts. The detainees themselves are marking the anniversary in quieter fashion, with peaceful demonstrations. Detainees are planning three days of protests, beginning Tuesday, according to an attorney for a handful of the men. Some will refuse to return to their cells for the four-hour nightly lockdown and will attempt to sleep in the recreation areas. Others plan to refuse food for three days. Read full article > >

Woman fatally stabbed near D.C. recreation center

A woman was fatally stabbed Tuesday afternoon in an alley behind a Northeast Washington recreation center, possibly during a domestic dispute, D.C. police said. Officers were called to the 1200 block of Morse Street and found a 42-year-old woman with stab wounds near the Joseph H. Cole Recreation Center, just after 3 p.m.officials said.
