Lindsay Lohan scores second-highest ‘SNL’ ratings of the season, according to early stats

Monday, March 5th, 2012

According to preliminary stats, Lindsay Lohan appears to have secured ”Saturday Night Live’s” second biggest audience this season, only behind…Charles Barkley. (Granted, Barkley’s hosting gig on Jan. 7 was boosted by the Detroit Lions-New Orleans Saints NFL wild card playoff game, which ran long that night.) Read full article > >

Days after former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney eked out a presidential primary victory in his home state of Michigan, ‘Saturday Night Live’ satirized the event in its opening sketch. In the skit, Fox News Channel’s Shepard Smith (Bill Hader, in a very creepy portrayal) asks GOP presidential candidate Romney (Jason Sudeikis) how he feels about the Michigan win. Eugene Robinson: Donald Trump debate decision is bad news only for comedians

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Donald Trump’s decision to call off the “debate” he was set to “moderate” means that the American political process gets to keep its last shred of dignity, at least for now. Given the way this campaign has been developing, this should be cause for celebration throughout the land — except among the clever people who write for “Saturday Night Live,” “The Daily Show” and late-night comedians. They must be devastated. Read full article > >

SNL writers may protest: this is too easy (read-this roundup)

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

“Saturday Night Live” writers might be put out of business. First there was Herman Cain’s cringey news conference, and now we have Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s deer-in-headlights gaffe during last night’s GOP debate. The jokes write themselves. Jennifer Rubin calls it “epic brain freeze” and our colleague Chris Cillizza asks if this is “the end” for the Perry campaign. Read full article > >

Alec Baldwin on SNL: Five best moments (Video)

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

It’s an impressive accomplishment — and one that, perhaps, will be short-lived if Martin hosts the show again in the near future. But let’s not worry about that right now. Read full article > >

Book review: ‘Bossypants’ by Tina Fey

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

It’s probably unwise to expect soul-baring candor from a book with a made-up biographical note on the jacket flap. Those who hoped Tina Fey — former head writer for “Saturday Night Live” and star and creator of the much-honored sitcom “30 Rock” — would shed her comedic persona and play it straight are going to find her sort-of memoir, “Bossypants,” disappointing.
