Lindsay Lohan scores second-highest ‘SNL’ ratings of the season, according to early stats

Monday, March 5th, 2012

According to preliminary stats, Lindsay Lohan appears to have secured ”Saturday Night Live’s” second biggest audience this season, only behind…Charles Barkley. Eugene Robinson: Donald Trump debate decision is bad news only for comedians

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Donald Trump’s decision to call off the “debate” he was set to “moderate” means that the American political process gets to keep its last shred of dignity, at least for now. Given the way this campaign has been developing, this should be cause for celebration throughout the land — except among the clever people who write for “Saturday Night Live,” “The Daily Show” and late-night comedians. They must be devastated. Read full article > >

Obama needs to be liked

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

President Obama , getting hammered by disenchanted Democrats and hyper-energized Republicans, at least can take solace — a la Stuart Smalley ’s affirmation mantra on “Saturday Night Live” — that “ doggone it, people like me .” Favorability is important, the experts say, because people generally tend to vote for candidates they like. Word leaked over the weekend that Murphy was the choice for producers Brett Ratner and Don Mischer, and by Tuesday afternoon, the deal was done. “Eddie is a comedic genius, one of the greatest and most influential live performers ever,” Ratner said in a statement.  “With his love of movies, history of crafting unforgettable characters and his iconic performances – especially on stage – I know he will bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous heart to the show Don and I want to produce in February.” Read full article > >

Book review: ‘Bossypants’ by Tina Fey

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

It’s probably unwise to expect soul-baring candor from a book with a made-up biographical note on the jacket flap. Those who hoped Tina Fey — former head writer for “Saturday Night Live” and star and creator of the much-honored sitcom “30 Rock” — would shed her comedic persona and play it straight are going to find her sort-of memoir, “Bossypants,” disappointing.
