The brutal and I believe premeditated murder of 17 year old Trayvon Martin in Sanford Florida was just the worst manifestation of a climate of racism and hate writ large and now fatal since President Barack Obama was elected to office.
Even Republican candidates have referred to this senseless killing as a national tragedy while desperately distancing themselves from any complicity or finger pointing.
There is enough disgrace to go around the country: From the NRA and it’s millions of dollars perpetuating gun violence every day in the Halls of Congress to Republican State legislatures ramming stupidly unnecessary laws like this Stand Your Ground idiocy in Florida.
But the ugly truth so few will state but I will is that while George Zimmerman shot unarmed Trayvon he had many more accomplices than the NRA and those politicians.
Beginning with the entire Fox News Network, for 4 years they have aided, abetted and encouraged blatant racism, fear and hatred of our President because he is African-American. From the daily bile of El Gasbag Rush LimpDick to their so-called straight news reporters they have endorsed, excused and encouraged blatant racism and no other President in the history of America has been treated with less respect. And let’s not forget the corporate fascists represented by ALEC ( American Legislative Executive Council) who have funneled millions into state legislatures promoting these “Shoot First, Ask No Questions” bills and other laws undermining the social safety net as well as public education.
“Sheriff” Joe Arpaio and his pathetic band of birther fools are additional willing accomplices stoking hate and trying to discredit a Black man’s right to govern.
And while Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee has temporarily “stepped aside” he and his officers created and supported a climate of acceptance of this kind of violence and should be fired en masse for their wink, wink, nod nod endorsement of premeditated murder.
And for all you in the South clinging to your Confederate flags take ‘em down or expose yourselves for the treasonous idiots you are. This is America–our flag is red, white and blue–either swear allegiance to it and not some fantasy olden times that never was or feel free to leave!
It’s impossible for some of us to understand why and how former senator Rick Santorum , who has zero qualifications to be president of the United States and whose positions on family and social issues are prehistoric, continues to survive and even thrive this Republican primary season. Friday, February 17, 2012 was a VERY GOOD day for Human Rights for all in my beloved state of Maryland! Thanks to Governor O’Malley, Democrats and even some Republicans and with the ardent support of Equality Maryland — Maryland is poised to become the 8th state to grant marriage equality.
And SHAME on my District 19, Delegate SAM ARORA who co-sponsored last year’s legislation, ran on a progressive platform that included marriage equality and is either a LIAR or a COWARD, or both and voted against the measure yesterday.
I wonder what Sam Arora will be doing come January 2013 –
I know he will no longer be our delegate!
Sam Arora has now joined the likes of NJ Gov. Chris Christie in supporting a “referendum” so voters can decide. You know just like we let Lester Maddox do in Georgia so that African-Americans could be treated equally, right? Or remember back in 1920 when there were referendums so men could vote for a women’s right to cast a ballot too?
Referendums are the last bastion of the cowards — Californians are learning the hard and expensive way. The Mormon Church may have invested 20 million buckeroos to lie and propagandize their way to overturning marriage equality but as the 9th Circuit Court just ruled – it’s still UNCONSTITUTIONAL!
I will be doing everything within my power to defeat phony liberals like Sam Arora!
Rick Santorum had two fairly strong debate performances this weekend. His poll numbers, however, have plateaued in New Hampshire and in South Carolina. It isn’t clear whether his lack of TV ad time or, in the case of New Hampshire voters, his emphasis on social issues (and high-visibility arguments at town halls) is at work. Perhaps it is a combination of these, or perhaps he still is a relative unknown to many voters.
