ORANJESTAD, Aruba — A U.S. tourist detained in the presumed death of his travel companion had an insurance policy that covered the missing woman, a prosecutor said Wednesday. Gary Giordano mentioned the travel insurance during questioning, but authorities haven’t determined whether it is relevant to their investigation into the disappearance of 35-year-old Robyn Gardner, Solicitor General Taco Stein told The Associated Press. The policy included both travelers, but it wasn’t clear whether it covered Gardner’s accidental death, Stein said. Nor was it clear who was the beneficiary. Read full article > >

Aruban authorities said Sunday that they intend to pursue criminal charges against Gary Giordano , the Gaithersburg man whose female companion disappeared on the island this month. Aruban Solicitor General Taco Stein called Giordano a “suspect in a suspicious death.” Giordano told officials that Robyn Gardner, 35, failed to return to the beach after the pair went snorkeling Aug. 2., but officials have questioned his account. Her body has not been found. In Maryland, federal agents began sifting through documents seized during their raid of Giordano’s $1.1 million home Friday night. Read full article > >

FBI agents on Friday night searched the Montgomery County home of a man held in Aruba in connection with the disappearance of Robyn Gardner , a 35-year-old Frederick woman with whom he was vacationing. Gary V. Giordano, 50, had told authorities that he and Gardner went snorkeling on Aug. 2, and that she never returned to shore. Aruban Solicitor General Taco Stein said in an interview that authorities asked a judge to order that Giordano be held for questioning, and that there are “discrepancies in his story.” Read full article > >
