The Chinese company In Icons decided to pull its plans for producing a life-like action figure of Jobs, The San Jose Mercury News reported , apparently after coming under “immense pressure” from Apple and Jobs’s family. For Apple fans worldwide, Steve Jobs was a superhero. Now, he’s been given a tribute usually accorded to superheroes: An action figure has been made in his likeness. The doll, which was created by Chinese company In Icons , will be released in February, but can be pre-ordered now. Of course, you’ll have to wait a bit until the Web site comes back up. Steve Jobs originally wanted Apple to be able to operate the iPhone without help from carriers. That’s what John Stanton, a venture capitalist and wireless industry veteran, told his audience at a Seattle speech Monday, IDG News reported . According to Stanton, when Jobs was first percolating ideas about the handset from 2005-2007, he discussed the plausibility of going around carriers and using the unlicensed spectrum that WiFi networks rely on for the phones. Tidbits are leaking out from the highly anticipated Steve Jobs biography from author Walter Isaacson, painting a more complex picture of the late Apple co-founder. The book comes out on Monday. The Associated Press reported that Jobs, an eternal competitor, was reportedly furious after Google introduced its Android operating system, calling it a stolen product. “I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong,” he reportedly said. “I’m going to destroy Android. I’m willing to go thermonuclear war on this.” Read full article > >

SAN FRANCISCO — A new biography portrays Steve Jobs as a skeptic all his life — giving up religion because he was troubled by starving children, calling executives who took over Apple “corrupt” and delaying cancer surgery in favor of cleansings and herbal medicine. “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson, to be published Monday, also says Jobs came up with the company’s name while he was on a diet of fruits and vegetables, and as a teenager perfected staring at people without blinking. NEW YORK — Apple Inc. failed to set a new all-time revenue record in the last three months of co-founder Steve Jobs’ life. Its financial results came in below expectations on Tuesday — a rare miss for the company. After several record quarters, the July-to-September period saw Apple biding its time, with no new iPhone or iPad releases. Earnings and revenue rose from last year at rates that would be the envy of any large company, but investors had expected the seemingly unstoppable company to do even better. Read full article > >

Details are leaking out from Walter Isaacson’s highly anticipated biography of Steve Jobs, due out Oct. 24. According to the author of the first authorized telling of Jobs’s life, it appears that the private executive wanted his story told for intensely personal reasons. A Reuters report Friday revealed that Isaacson last spoke to Jobs a few weeks before his death, when the Apple co-founder was too weak to climb the stairs. Read full article > >

Tim Cook is an operational wiz. Philip Schiller is a marketing maven. Jonathan Ive is a design visionary. The men at the helm of Apple are among the best at what they do. But none seems to have that spark of genius like Steve Jobs — an industry oddity studied by business school students for his creative vision, uncanny sense for what consumers want and shrewd leadership. And that’s the central issue Apple faces, now that Jobs has relinquished day-to-day control. Apple’s breakaway success has largely been defined by Jobs’s ability to repeatedly develop groundbreaking computers and electronics. But the super-competitive marketplace ensured that the dominance of many Apple products was short-lived. Read full article > >
