Union Hardware in Bethesda is 97 years old and has blue-collar roots. Founders Abraham and Jennie Goldberg chose the name “Union” because of the growing strength of labor unions at the time. Like many small businesses, over the years the store has lured customers away from big-box competitors with the folksy tagline, “It’s about service.” Read full article > > <div class="addthis_toolbox addthis_default_style " addthis:url='http://heave-ho.org/2011/11/30/bathrooms-as-art-how-to-save-a-business-by-going-high-end/' addthis:title='Bathrooms as art?
As expected, Apple has pulled iTether from the iOS App Store this morning less than a day after its arrival . If anything, it's a wonder that the $14.99 USB tethering app — which bypasses the operating system's (and carrier's) typical tethering and hotspot provisioning — managed to stay in the store for that long, especially considering the amount of press coverage it's gotten since going live. For those of you who shelled out the $15, congratulations — you've got a bit of a collector's item on your hands, assuming a future iOS update doesn't break the functionality. For the rest of you, though: back to your standard tethering plans.
LOS ANGELES — A woman shot pepper spray to keep shoppers from merchandise she wanted during a Black Friday sale, and 20 people suffered minor injuries, authorities said.
An armed robber burst into a Northeast Washington market, scuffled with the cashier, and then shot him and the clerk’s father, who also owned the store. The killer sped off in a silver Pontiac, but a witness was able to write down the license plate number. Police figured out the name of the suspect very quickly. But locating and arresting him took a little-known investigative tool: a vast system track of the comings and goings of anyone driving around the District.
George Davis of Northeast Washington treks to Prince George’s County once a week to shop for groceries in District Heights. And at least once a month, James Royster, looking for discounts, gathers a group of seniors in his Southeast neighborhood to drive to another store in Oxon Hill. But on Thursday morning, the men were among a throng of residents who stood outside a recently built Aldi store in Northeast, waiting for city and Aldi officials to cut the ribbon on the company’s first market in the District.
