Person familiar with decision tells AP Jorge Posada set to announce retirement

NEW YORK — Jorge Posada is planning to retire after 17 seasons with the New York Yankees rather than pursue opportunities with other teams. A person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Saturday that the five-time All-Star catcher will announce his retirement this month. CORONADO, Calif. — The Michigan State Spartans couldn’t feel too bad about losing 67-55 to No. 1 North Carolina in the Carrier Classic on the flight deck of the USS Carl Vinson. After all, President Barack Obama sat at midcourt as the teams played the first college hoops game on an active flat top. Workers at Perkins maximum-security psychiatric hospital allege climate of fear, poor patient treatment

Workers at Maryland’s maximum-security psychiatric hospital in Jessup, where two patients were slain recently, are calling on the state to address what they describe as problems in treatment and a pervasive climate of fear. In the letter to state officials, they said some patients at the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center “are under-medicated and others are over-medicated.” Treatment teams do not get input from the direct-care staff, they added, so the teams “are often out-of-touch and therefore make dangerous clinical decisions regarding these very dangerous clients.” Read full article > >
