Joe Paterno in Serious Condition
The Duke of Edinburgh smiled and waved Tuesday as he left the hospital where he had undergone heart surgery. Prince Philip, the 90-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth, was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 23 with chest pains. Doctors say he had a blocked artery, which they treated with a stent.

The former Penn State football coach was expected to make a full recovery after slipping Saturday and was admitted to the hospital the next day, the person added. He spends his days locked in a psychiatric ward at Children’s National Medical Center in the District because he stabbed his cousin in the eye with a pencil and has said he wants to kill himself. DC Fire/EMS Battalion Chief John Donnelly said one person was taken to the hospital but he did not have not have more information on the extent of the victim’s injuries. No one was trapped or injured, said Oscar Mendez, a D.C. Fire/EMS spokesman. But when the crane came down, it damaged both the Herb Cottage and the Church House, the headquarters of the diocese.
