At some point in 2012, President Obama and his GOP opponent will formally declare whether they plan to take public funding for their general-election campaigns. If House Republicans get their way, there won’t be a choice to make. This week, the House will vote on a bill sponsored by Rep. Gregg Harper (R-Miss.) that would abolish the Presidential Election Campaign Fund and the Presidential Primary Matching Payment Account. Report: IRS Austin plane crash handled appropriately

The Internal Revenue Service was prepared for and adequately responded to the February 2010 plane crash at its Austin offices that killed one worker, according to a new watchdog report. Among other things, the report by the Treasury inspector general for tax administration (TIGTA) said the IRS properly protected its workers, secured taxpayer data after the crash and quickly resumed business operations at the site.
