There are not to many things that can expose dreadful writing online except for when it comes to having to type information or your thoughts using a very limited amount of characters and be effective at it. With its–0 character threshold on all tweets (or “tweets” as they are referred to) Twitter often shows this all too well. From abbreviation-laden tweets that create no sense, to tweets that neglect to persuade followers to click through on a link, examples are everywhere in the Twitter “discussion”.
Whether at work or at home, we have all been on the receiving end of emails containing sloppy sentence structure, inadequate spelling, fractured syntax, and which are over and over again a chore to make sense of. Twitter posts are no different (despite the fact that they are at least mercifully condensed though that can sometimes be a mixed blessing too).
A number of webmasters follow thousands of other people on Twitter, filling their home sites with, (in some extreme cases), hundreds of tweets a day. Obviously, webmasters will pass over over tweets that are sloppy, unimportant and incoherent because they merely don’t have time to waste.
Like all types of writing, the procedure of writing a first-rate Twitter post takes careful consideration, time and scrutiny. Even as there is no such thing as a “faultless” tweet, (since such judgments are very individual and dependent upon the intended audience) there are some fundamental procedure that each person can follow.
Firstly, steer clear of abbreviations if at all feasible, and only utilize them when absolutely necessary. For one thing there are so many abbreviations you actually can’t always assume webmasters will be familiar with what they are. Long-time heavy Twitter users are probably the worst offenders in this respect. This is partially owing to the actuality that the greater part of these webmasters still tend to be from a technical background.
However, as its user base becomes more and more diversified which has been the situation of late, a lot of these webmasters may well not be up on all the Twitter-specific slang. Relying on this manner of writing and you extend the risk of in outcome blocking off a considerable segment of the group of people from appreciating completely (or at all) what you have to voice.
Secondly and as importantly, make an effort to take your time. The purpose for this is that Twitter allows you to broadcast your tweet right away, the open field to tweet a message resides in your web-browser or in an application on your desktop looking like what a portion of cheese must look like to a mouse. With only–0 characters allowable it might seem effortless to some to just tweet way without giving it much consideration.
Then again, much like you’d proofread an significant e-mail communication before hitting “send” to everyone in the company, you should also take into account pausing before you distribute a tweet with the world. And shared it will be. Don’t merely take for granted that only your immediate followers will spot your tweets, as a tweet can be picked up publicly by Google or Twitter’s search tool. On the other hand, if you take some extra time you will most likely put more consideration into it, which in turn makes it extra likely to be appreciated.
Owing to the exceptional briefness of tweets, a rushed writing job combined with lack of perspective can create a lot of misunderstandings. If you take the time to not only construct the tweet, but also think about how your target market will accept it, you can prevent yourself a lot of worries and wasted time.

Yes, you can still get someone to invest in a Web start-up with zero revenue. It helps if you can insert the word “Twitter” into your pitch, though. TweetDeck , a one-man company that makes a very helpful piece of free software that organizes your Twitter streams, is raising an angel round led by Betaworks, the investment company with a hankering for all things Twitter. The round, which hasn’t closed yet, will eventually end up somewhere south of $500,000, I’m told. When it does, the financing will make 34-year-old programmer Iain Dodsworth a paper millionaire. Nice work for a Brit who built TweetDeck just last June because he was following 30 people on Twitter and wanted a better way to organize their Tweets. Dodsworth says TweetDeck has been downloaded 250,000 times since then and that users are sending out 120,000 messages a day using the software. That places it above other free Twitter clients like Twitterific and twhirl , both of which are cranking out 80,000 to 85,000 messages a day, according to tracking service TweetRush. All of them are part of the burgeoning ecosystem that revolves around Twitter, which powers all of their companies by letting them plug into its data stream. In exchange, all of these companies make Twitter more successful, by bolting on frills and features to its bare-bones service. And no money changes hands at any point: Twitter doesn’t charge for use of its data, and its partners do all their development work for free. That could change at some point. As Twitter casts about for a business model to support its service–it is, famously, just about revenue-free at this point–an obvious solution would be to start charging a fee to the likes of TweetDeck. No problem, says Dodsworth, who says he’d be happy to pay Twitter, particularly if it gave him even more access in exchange. Oh. And what about his business model? It’s coming, Dodsworth says–he’d like to start selling a pro version of his software, targeting power users and corporations. That strikes me as a fairly small market, but then again TweetDeck is a very small operation. Dodsworth says he doesn’t plan on hiring any additional help in the near future, even as he preps new features like a version for Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone. Web folk have a fairly justified suspicion of anything they hear from official music industry reps these days. But this stat seems about right to me: 95 percent of all songs downloaded on the Web last year were stolen , says the industry’s international trade group. The IFPI estimates that some 40 billion tracks were stolen/shared last year, though it’s not entirely clear how the group came up with the math. Regardless of the methodology, that’s bad, right? Depends on how you look at it. The IFPI also notes that people spent some $3.7 billion on digital music in 2008, which is up about 25 percent. Figure about half of that comes from Apple (AAPL), which moves about two billion tracks a year from its iTunes store. The remainder would be from mobile, with a very small smattering from services like RealNetworks’ (RNWK) Rhapsody and a few dollars spent on ad-supported services like News Corp.’s (NWS) MySpace Music, etc. (News Corp. is the owner of Dow Jones and of this Web site.) But the standard summation still applies: The growth of digital has yet to replace the decline in physical sales– overall music sales dropped seven percent last year .

BoomTown’s favorite space villain, as well as an alum of two of the “Planet of the Apes” sci-fi movies, Ricardo Montalban, died earlier this week in Los Angeles. He was 88 years old. While he was also a movie star and helmed the always bizarre 1970s television show, “Fantasy Island,” those who love some serious scenery-chewing will never forget Montalban’s turn as the insane Khan Noonien Singh in the second “Star Trek” movie, “The Wrath of Khan.” The fabulous movie was based on a famous episode of the “Star Trek” television series, “Space Seed,” about a race of super-men lost in space and found by the crew of the Enterprise. While Montalban’s over-the-top performance is extreme in both cases, it is pure sci-fi genius too.
