Washington Ballet’s ‘Nutcracker’ to have live music

After two years of canned Tchaikovsky, the Washington Ballet will dance to a live orchestra during its four-week run of “The Nutcracker” this season, thanks to a $250,000 gift from longtime arts supporter Adrienne Arsht, the ballet announced Tuesday. The donation comes as the ballet prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its first “Nutcracker” performances. That production, by company founder Mary Day, was replaced in 2004 by Artistic Director Septime Webre’s version of the holiday classic. On the day CBS aired part 2 of the getting-rid-of-Charlie-Season season opener, Warner Bros. TV, Sheen’s camp, and that of show creator Chuck Lorre issued a statement saying their various differences had been settled . Barry Manilow spends most of his time immersed in Las Vegas glitz these days and doesn’t have many visible body parts left that don’t look as if they’ve been nipped and/or tucked. But Manilow has never seemed more genuine than at the Warner Theatre on Wednesday. LOS ANGELES — “Contagion” has infected enough moviegoers to catch the top spot at the box office. Studio estimates released Sunday show that the Warner Bros. pandemic thriller coughed up $23.1 million in its first weekend.
