DEAR AMY: My husband and I have been together for 30 years. Several months ago he turned 60, which was very traumatic for him. Today, after an argument he started with me the night before, he called me from work to say he would be leaving me. He said that he can’t stand to be around our two grown sons or me and that he’s felt this way for “a while.” He refused to tell me why this is happening and insisted that I stop asking him. I pointed out that this sounds like a midlife crisis, but he said flatly that he didn’t care. I don’t believe another woman is involved. Read full article > >

Defense attorneys for Brittany Norwood, the woman charged with killing a co-worker in a Bethesda yoga shop, are likely to assert that their client is not criminally responsible because of mental illness, according to a filing in Montgomery County Circuit Court. The lawyers also asked a judge to postpone Norwood’s October trial so they can further investigate her medical, social and educational background. Norwood, 29, is charged with first-degree murder in the March killing of Jayna Murray, 30, inside Lululemon Athletica in downtown Bethesda. Prosecutors have said they will seek a sentence of life without the possibility of parole if Norwood is convicted. Read full article > >

The royal wedding afterglow has subsided enough so that a certain television viewer can wallow in the morose, almost 19th-century-novel-like existence of one Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, ex-wife of Prince Andrew, mother of the mad-hatted Eugenie and Bea, and the woman who was most definitely not invited to Wills and Kate’s nuptials . The original Fergie is now persona non grata, and it just kills her. She may be one of the saddest people on Earth — certainly on her Earth. “The mind is such an extraordinary place,” she muses at the opening of her fascinating but bummed-out new reality show, “ Finding Sarah: From Royalty to the Real World ,” which premieres Sunday night on OWN. “We appear to be not broken, but we’re broken. And I am broken. It hurts. . . . I’ve lost who I really am and this torments me.” Read full article > >

The harried mother is dashing between the rockets at the National Air and Space Museum , bearing all the markers of a field-trip parent: name tag, loads of other people’s junk in her arms and a certain askew quality to her entire self. “I lost my kids. Jaaaaasoooooon!” the woman shouts between panicked breaths. Her eyes flash a look of both hunter and prey as she scans the vast area of the museum for her escaped charges and the museum guard who might catch them mid-caper. “At least it’s an enclosed space,” she tells no one in particular. A 21-year-old woman was fatally stabbed and the father of her child was critically wounded Thursday night in Temple Hills, said police and the woman’s mother. The incident occurred about 11 p.m. in the 3500 block of Leslie Avenue — a cul-de-sac of split-level, single-family homes off Temple Hill Road, police said. In a news alert hours after the slaying, police said the incident was the “result of a domestic dispute.” On Friday afternoon, officers backed off that description, saying they needed to talk to the injured man, who was hospitalized. Every day now, Jan Maxwell and her newfound circle of buddies wake up, put on their work togs and dance. And dance. Drilled by their “Follies” choreographer, Warren Carlyle, they power through the steps of one of the most exuberant numbers in Stephen Sondheim’s memory-lane-driven score: “Who’s That Woman?,” a period song for a bevy of older actresses.
