VIERA, Fla. – Davey Johnson has experienced too much death, and so these days he mostly ignores it. He stopped going to funerals. He will not gaze into the casket. Johnson was deeply saddened when his good friend, Gary Carter, died of a brain tumor this winter . Johnson would have fit perfectly among the baseball dignitaries at the services, the man who managed Carter and the New York Mets to the World Series 26 years ago. PHILADELPHIA — An appeals court has overturned the attempted prostitution conviction of a Philadelphia woman who was accused of offering sexual favors for World Series tickets. Authorities had alleged that Susan Finkelstein posted a racy online ad, then met with an undercover Bensalem police officer in October 2009 and offered to perform sexual acts in exchange for tickets to see the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees. After winning the third World Series of his 33-year managerial career, St. Louis Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa is stepping down. “There isn’t one [factor] that dominates [my decision],” La Russa said at a news conference in St. Louis. “They all just come together telling you your time is over. “We went through the season and I felt that this just feels like it’s time to end it and I think it’s going to be great for the Cardinals to refresh what’s going on here. ST. LOUIS — Colby Lewis and his Texas teammates casually tossed a ball in left field, trying to avoid the tarp and any anxiety about being so close to the World Series championship. On this day, the only winner was the weather. Game 6 was postponed Wednesday because of an accurate wet forecast, delaying the Rangers’ bid to clinch their first championship.
