Vote on old-age living allowance delayed again

<!– google_ad_section_start –> Intended beneficiaries of the government’s proposed old-age living allowance have lost another HK$2,200 each after a lawmaker’s filibuster prevented a vote on whether to approve funding for the measure. Had the allowance been passed when an attempt to reach a vote on it was first made two months ago, payments would have been backdated to October. It is government practice to backdate payments to the first day of the month in which lawmakers approve them. The allowance is meant to help the elderly poor, and would be an alternative to the old-age allowance of HK$1,090. <!– google_ad_section_end –>
